At present, the automotive industry is in the deep waters of a century of transformation, where new energy, intelligence, low carbon transitions and global supply chain reconfiguration are interweaving and colliding, reshaping the technological foundation of automotive powertrain systems. Against this backdrop, focusing on "high efficiency, zero carbon, and intelligence" has become a consensus among global automakers. China, the world's largest market for new energy vehicles, is accelerating the construction of a new ecosystem of power systems with electric drive at its core.

Driven by this trend, the 17th Automotive Powertrain Technology Congress (TMC 2025), hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers of China and the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology and co-organized by Zhongqi Hansi Management Consulting Co., Ltd, opened grandly at the Nantong International Convention and Exhibition Center from June to 12th, gathering global wisdom to explore the future path of powertrain technology.

As the most influential technology event in the global powertrain field, TMC 2025 attracted more than 2,750 professionals from vehicle manufacturers, core component leaders, top research institutions and industry organizations on its opening day, with over 800,000 online viewers, reflecting the industry's high level of attention to the deep integration and innovation of powertrain technology.

Among them, power semiconductors were undoubtedly one of the most closely watched technological focuses. The debut of the fourth-generation semiconductor, Gallium Oxide, not only demonstrates the rapid evolution of semiconductor technology but also reveals the fierce industrial competition landscape behind it.

Gallium Oxide: The "Chinese Opportunity" of the Fourth-Generation Semiconductor

One of the technical surprises at this year's TMC is undoubtedly the Gallium Oxide technology brought by Hangzhou GAREN SEMI. Jiang Jiwei, co-founder of Hangzhou GAREN SEMI Co., LTD., introduced the world's first 8-inch Gallium Oxide single crystal substrate and the rapid growth technology of "one furnace every two days", demonstrating China's technological strength in the emerging semiconductor materials field.

The strategic significance of Gallium Oxide lies not only in the technology itself but also in the supply chain control behind it. Jiang Jiwei mentioned that over 90% of the world's Gallium Oxide powder resources are concentrated in China. This resource advantage, combined with technological breakthroughs, has created a rare first-mover advantage for China in the field of fourth-generation semiconductors.

It is particularly worth noting the advantage of Gallium Oxide in process compatibility - it can use existing silicon device processing equipment, which greatly lowers the threshold for industrial introduction. This case of "technology blockade turning into opportunity" is of great significance in the current international situation.
