【Member News】Exploring GAO SEMI: Gallium Oxide Strength and Future Outlook at APCSCRM 2025
日期:2025-12-12阅读:16
At the 6th Asia Pacific Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials (APCSCRM 2025), Gallium Oxide emerged as one of the most prominent focal points in the field. As an invited participant, the Asian Gallium Oxide Alliance (AGOA) conducted an interview with its council member—GAO SEMI—during the conference.
In the following section, we take a closer look at GAO SEMI, its vision for the future, and its expectations for the Alliance.

GAO SEMI is a high-tech enterprise dedicated to ultrawide-bandgap (UWBG) semiconductor materials, with a core focus on Gallium Oxide. With a mission to overcome the key technological bottlenecks in the Gallium Oxide industry, the company integrates materials R&D, device design, and production applications. GAO SEMI is committed to delivering high-quality Gallium Oxide materials and comprehensive solutions to drive the next generation of power electronics. The company has successfully achieved breakthroughs in 6-inch Gallium Oxide crystal growth and realized stable mass production of high-quality single-crystal substrates. GAO SEMI provides customers with a full range of highly customized services—including materials, epitaxy, and device development—helping accelerate technological advances and product innovation.
At this exhibition, GAO SEMI showcased 2-inch and 4-inch Gallium Oxide substrates with various electrical properties on (100) and (001) orientations, as well as 2-inch homoepitaxial and 2- to 6-inch heteroepitaxial wafers.

Company Introduction
We are currently at the intersection of an energy revolution and an era of rapid intelligent transformation. From new energy vehicles and smart grids to industrial drives and data centers, society’s demand for efficient power conversion and control has reached unprecedented heights. At the heart of all these systems lies the power device. As an ultrawide-bandgap (UWBG) semiconductor material, Gallium Oxide offers remarkable advantages for power devices—enabling lower energy losses, higher power density, and more compact system designs. These characteristics translate directly into longer driving ranges for electric vehicles, faster charging speeds, lower transmission losses in power grids, and improved energy efficiency across electronic systems. In short, Gallium Oxide is a key engine driving the next revolution in power electronics.
From its inception, Suzhou GAO SEMI has taken on the mission of overcoming critical technological bottlenecks in the Gallium Oxide industry. The company has successfully achieved 6-inch Gallium Oxide crystal growth and realized stable mass production of 4-inch substrates. The key performance indicators of our substrates have reached world-class levels. We provide customers with substrates and epitaxial products of various sizes and electrical specifications.
It is important to note that the power semiconductor market—especially for automotive-grade and industrial applications—requires a rigorous and lengthy qualification process. Although the market outlook is promising, full-scale industrial adoption will take time. To navigate this “strategic window,” we have implemented a dual-engine development strategy that balances long-term commitment with short-term acceleration.
The first engine is our long-term strategy, focused on the power electronics market. We are steadily advancing toward the establishment of a 6-inch Gallium Oxide production line. Capacity will be ramped up in alignment with market demand—steadily, without rushing or falling behind. Meanwhile, we are collaborating closely with top industry partners to accelerate device validation.
The second engine is our near-term strategy, centered on solar-blind UV photodetectors for rapid commercialization. Beyond power electronics, Gallium Oxide 's intrinsic solar-blind property makes it an exceptional material for UV detectors, which have strong demand in fields such as defense, firefighting, power monitoring, and environmental sensing. Importantly, the development and commercialization cycle for optoelectronic devices is significantly shorter. To this end, we have launched a series of Gallium Oxide solar-blind UV detectors and application-oriented products, enabling the market to experience the outstanding performance of Gallium Oxide in advance and laying the groundwork for future adoption of power devices.
In summary, GAO SEMI Suzhou’s development roadmap is both clear and forward-looking:
● 6-inch production line as the future growth engine, driving momentum toward the large-scale power electronics market.
● Solar-blind UV detection as the pioneering market breakthrough, validating technological feasibility and unlocking immediate application potential.
We firmly believe that, supported by China’s vast market scale and the country’s clear trajectory toward industrial upgrading, the springtime of Gallium Oxide is inevitable. GAO SEMI Suzhou is not only a witness to this trend but an active driver—advancing with solid technology, a clear strategy, and a commitment to shaping the future of ultrawide-bandgap semiconductor materials.
Recommendations for the Alliance
As a council member of the Asian Gallium Oxide Alliance (AGOA), we are honored to work alongside the Alliance in witnessing and driving the development of Gallium Oxide—an emerging strategic material with significant industry impact.
First, the Alliance has established a highly valuable platform that bridges academia and industry. By continuously sharing the latest academic findings and industrial progress, it enables us to stay informed of cutting-edge developments in a timely manner. Second, the Alliance actively promotes in-depth communication and resource sharing among its member organizations. Through this platform, we have not only strengthened collaborations with leading academic institutions, but also connected with like-minded partners across the industry chain. The Alliance has successfully fostered a healthy “non-zero-sum” ecosystem that encourages collective growth—an essential foundation for the Gallium Oxide industry in China to achieve breakthrough development. Its value cannot be overstated.
Moreover, the Alliance has established a talent pool to support the development of a robust talent ecosystem. This initiative provides member units with a stable channel for talent recruitment and, more importantly, cultivates the essential foundation for the long-term, sustainable growth of the entire industry.
